This is something you need to resolve on your side. We have no idea why that happened. We have never seen before. This is an issue you need to resolve with your system.

I have noticed every couple of months one instance that I use to just place trades will randomly crash.
No other copies of SC instances or stand alone are affected.
Researching logs today I found same error as above caused the crash.

I can tell you what I was doing at the time of crash. Since I use this instance (call it Master) to just place trades, occasionally the Master SC fills but my trade accounts copied to didn't fill so I'll quickly goto Trade Activity and just delete the Open / Close trade activity to keep clean logs.

The QC:30 countdown starts, few seconds later I placed another trade - crash happened here.

This is very unusual:

1450: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

Sierra Chart will gracefully handle this though.

The query count should not matter. We have seen cases on our server, where there have been 16,000+ outstanding queries. And also active logging to the Trade Activity Log at the same time.

Maybe coincidence on query count?

Here are the last lines before the crash

You definitively have serious system issues if you are getting errors like this. Something is wrong with your system. You are running out of memory or something.

You are going to have to figure this out and we are definitively not going to get involved in this. This is a problem with your system.

We can never even remember seeing an error creating a thread.

Our recommendation is to reinstall the operating system and only use that computer for Sierra Chart. Something is really messed up with your system, for sure!

This same instance crashed again today. I am running multiple copies of SC and multiple instances - of them ALL this particular instance is bare bones used only for executing trades.

It has a chart, a dom running Simple systems trade copier and that's it. It's always this instance and only randomly every month or two.

I'm not reinstalling my OS that's non-sense I'm having zero issue outside of this single SC instance.

Specs:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT 12-Core Processor, 64GB Ram, 1TB SSD with 40GB free space.

Also I run a script that monitors all SC system resources including system and I don't see anything in the logs.

I'm attaching the log, this time there are NO error creating thread messages.

It looks like the common error is: Windows error code 122: The data area passed to a system call is too small, along with the original message/tread #1 Error 1450

We cannot help with this.

This is an operating system/system issue. This is a problem for you to resolve and you to make your own decisions on. This is strictly an issue with your system. It is not an issue with Sierra Chart at all.

We are declining further support.

If you do not want to believe you have a problem with your system that is not our issue. This is fully your problem to resolve.

All of these errors indicate a problem with the operating system. Sierra Chart is not passing a data area that is too small. It is impossible for such a concept like this to even exist to begin with. And why does it say insufficient system resources when opening a file? You need to figure this problem out. We have no idea what the problem is with your system but there is something seriously wrong.

C:\SierraChart_AMP\SierraChartInstance_5\Data\NQ.backup2092.Cht. Windows error code 122: The data area passed to a system call is too small.
2025-03-06 12:47:24.561 | Error opening C:\SierraChart_AMP\SierraChartInstance_5\Data\NQ.Cht. File error: Windows error code 1450: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
2025-03-06 12:47:24.561 | Error copying C:\SierraChart_AMP\SierraChartInstance_5\Data\NQ.Cht to C:\SierraChart_AMP\SierraChartInstance_5\Backups\6.NQ.Cht. Windows error code 122: The data area passed to a system call is too small.

And we do think, that completely reinstalling the operating system is a good idea. A standard installation without any third party software.

It is up to you to decide what to do.

Update:

Look at the affected process in the Windows Task manager, and look at the Handle count, and also the User object count. You may have to add those columns. See if they are excessively high.

I've been tracking because this single instance of SC keeps crashing at what I thought was random but possibly due to the number of Handles running into infinity?
The number of Handles are around 11,249,725 after about 2 days.
If I let SC run long enough that Instance #5 will crash, lately there are no error codes, last line in Log is a message Saved Chartbook xx and that instance is no longer running.
Sub Instance #5 is the ONLY one that crashes and it's only few times a month.
I'm not sure why the 3 SC PID's at 5 million are so high those are running a single BLANK chart I just copy trades to those 3, From Instance #5

The only commonality between each of these with a crazy high Handle count is the Simple Trading Systems trade copier.

Yes that is the problem:

The number of Handles are around 11,249,725 after about 2 days.

The number of handles is insanely high.

We really do not think this is a problem within Sierra Chart itself. Sierra Chart has no such problem like this. It has no memory leaks involving handles. Or if there is a scenario where this happens, we would not know how to reproduce or what the cause is but we really do not think it is a problem within Sierra Chart.

We think it would be caused by a custom study or some other external cause on your system. Maybe some kind of third-party software causing objects which are represented by an operating system handle to be allocated within the Sierra Chart process.

Run Sierra Chart in safe mode. Refer to:
Sierra Chart Unexpectedly Shutting Down | Memory Errors | Unusual Software Problems | Exception Errors | Freezing of User Interface

There is a handle leak in the custom study used.

This issue is resolved. Restart SC to get latest version v2.1.77
