Proton GE is a fork of Proton (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton) Does the original Proton environment give you the same help ? I read from the README it can be installed without Steam runtimes (if it has any matters). Just thinking it may be a good idea to avoid all extra layers in everything... I mean in this case the layer is an another group of maintainers. Anyway the day my system goes unstable under libx11 patch I will go and dig Proton more closely.
