Misalignment between TPO and Volume Profile

I’m running into an issue with the TPO Profile Chart where the overlaid Volume Profile (white/cyan outline) is not aligned with the TPO distribution. On most days they look fine, but in some ETH sessions (see attached screenshot, red boxes) the Volume Profile shape and POC/VA seem completely different from the TPO. My understanding is that some divergence is normal (since TPO counts time at price and VP counts volume), but the difference here looks too extreme, almost as if the two studies are not using the same session or data range. Currently my "Volume Graph Period Type" for Volume Profile is configured as "Based on TPO Chart". I'm also attaching my session time configs, hope they help. |

Sorry, I thought I included everything in the screenshot, but for some reasons it was not included. The symbol is ES. |

We just wanted to make sure that we saw the same thing on our end, and we do. So this is correct. What you are seeing is due to what each item shows, as you have noted. For the profiles from August 14, 2025, for instance, it just means that there was a lot of trading occurring in a short time at the lower price levels, and then more time spent to get the same amount of volume at the higher price points. Thank you John for the answer, I somehow imagined that, but since I'm still learning (both Volume analysis and Sierra Chart), I wanted to be sure it wasn't a misconfiguration on my end. Thanks again for your support! |
